Studies are now providing answers that may want to make you blast your headphones while pumping up! Researchers have tested the performance of subjects in a cardiac rehabilitation program, before and after they exercised and with or without music. On average, participants performed more than twice as well on a verbal fluency test after rocking out to their music than after listening to nothing. Researchers are not positive yet though whether it’s the boost from your workout, caused by increased action in the brain’s frontal lobe, or the music (often song of choice) you have on. Try it out though! Whether you like classical, country, pop or rap, rock out and lift to whatever gets you going. No one will think of you any less if you’re mellowing out to Beethoven, or head banging in the corner to Pantera. It’s worth a shot if it means your brain and body will potentially be more powerful.
