Do you have period problems?

Just recently studies have unveiled a common link between the female menstrual cycle and metabolism problems. These studies have stated that period problems or disorders slow down your metabolism, which is not good for any of us at “that time of the month” considering most of us already feel horrible, bloated and overweight! The connection between the two may only affect some women though. In one study it said that female athletes who have minor menstrual disorders have significantly lower resting metabolisms than women athletes with normal menstrual cycles. Most menstrual disorders are defined as a low level of progesterone secretion during the last half of the cycle, or women whose bodies skip some periods. The evidence collected might easily be combated if the opposite were true instead. I guess that having a slow and sluggish metabolism might effect your period, but does it? Think about it, most athletes train heavily and eat less or have a more strict diet to follow. They most often have to maintain a particular weight year round; so therefore maybe their bodies have adjusted to trying to conserve energy by slowing the reproductive function of the period. In one of the side notes of the study it mentioned how some of the athletes who had low metabolism function maintained a healthy weight and had their periods regularly. I think it would be safe to say that the everyday women will not have to worry much about metabolism rate and period problems. There is not much we could do about it even if we did worry about the issue, but go see our gynecologist! Speaking of, if you do notice irregularities with your period or are having fertility problems, or if you just have questions, please contact your gynecologist right away! You very well could have a serious menstrual disorder or will require some type of treatment or medication.
