Robby Robinson – The Black Prince

Robby Robinson was born in May of 1946 and is a former American bodybuilder that took a number of titles during his career. His most notable wins included the Mr. America title through the International Federation of Body Builders and the Mr. World and the Mr. Universe titles as well. He was also the Masters Olympia champion overall in the very first year that they held the event, which was 1994, before going on to win in the 50+ division for that same contest both in the years 1997 and 2000. During his bodybuilding career, Robby Robinson was also known as the "Black Prince."

Although Robby Robinson was born in Georgia, he was raised primarily in Tallahassee in Florida, where he attended college. He was a student at Florida A&M where he competed both in track and field and football. He was inspired to try bodybuilding by Jack LaLanne, and began to train at the age of 12. His professional career in bodybuilding spanned twenty seven years and allowed him to take several titles including Mr. Universe, Mr. World and Mr. America, all of which are IFBB titles. He has also been outspoken in the bodybuilding world, speaking out about corruption and steroid abuse. Because he has been defiant within the bodybuilding industry, many people refer to him as the "Bad Boy of Bodybuilding."

Robby Robinson, like many other professional body builders, participated in the documentary Pumping Iron, which has become a cult classic. He took a number of other titles during his career including wins at Night of the Champions, an annual contest held by the IFBB. He won his first Masters Olympia competition in the year 1994. He is "built" superbly from head to toe and has a massive form that became his trademark. He is most known for extremely-peaked arms. In the Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, written by Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was noted that one of his biceps is larger than the other one.

Although Robby Robinson has retired from the professional competition circuit, he is still training and bodybuilding, even at the age of 63. He continues to be outspoken in the bodybuilding world, and promotes the beauty and benefits of weight training and bodybuilding as a way to create "the ultimate art" through the right nutrition and training. He does not believe that bodybuilding should be about vanity, but rather attempts to change perceptions about the art so that more people will utilize bodybuilding for good health and wellbeing.
